James Garner’s Marinade

Print ME! Print ME!
  • 1/2 c. red wine
  • 1 T. red wine vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp. cracked black pepper
  • 2 T. oil
  • 1 clove minced garlic
  • 1/2 tsp sugar

Combine and pour over meat.  Let sit at least 30 minutes.  Reserve marinade to baste meat.

I have no idea how my Mom got James Garner’s marinade recipe, but it was one of her proudest accomplishments.  She was always saying, “Ohhhhh….this was made with JAMES GARNER’S MARINADE.  THAT I GOT.”  I am betting she got it from a magazine.

I remember seeing this recipe in an old Reader’s Digest while I sat in a waiting room, waiting to see a doctor when I was in the USAF in Alaska….probably from around 1987-88 or thereabouts.

I bet that is where she got it! She read Reader’s Digest all the time and it was right around then that she got it. Thank you for solving a family mystery!

I’ve been looking for this recipe! I found it as a teenager (late 70s, early 80s) but it also contained worcesteshire sauce and I think it was published as part of an ad for the worcestershire sauce brand. I use it to marinate London Broil. Or it was in my mom’s GoodHousekeeping Magazine. Thanks for posting.
